Acaena buchananii

Dense carpet, forming runners and covering the ground, shoots partially above ground, partially creeping underground, medium-growing, sometimes rampant.

5-8 cm tall.

Small and inconspicuous, in greenish yellow, 1 cm heads, May to June.

Effective, prickly heads, yellowish to reddish brown, July to August.

Evergreen, decoratively feathered, silvery grey-green.

Sunny to slightly shady, likes warmth, also cool, mostly frost hardy, winter protection advisable.

Moderately dry to fresh, sensitive to dampness, summer droughts pose no problem; porous, sandy-loamy, often full of gaps on heavy soil.
