Arbutus unedo

Medium-size to large shrub or small tree, 6-8 m tall and wide, expansive, gnarled tree with round crown, slow-growing.

White to pink flowers or with touches of greenish, hanging in terminal panicles, autumn and winter.

Initially yellow, later dark red, like strawberries, wart-like surface, edible, tasteless.

Evergreen, coarse, lanceolate, oval to obovate, finely toothed, shiny medium-green, up to 10 cm long.

Dark to deep red-brown, shiny, rough, peeling.

Sun to shade, sheltered, cold house, sufficiently frost hardy when old, responds well to pruning.

All well drained soil, moderately nutritious, loamy-humic, acidic to alkaline.
