Habit
Symmetrical, conical small tree; (3) 5-8 m tall, 2-3m wide; branches in layers; slow-growing; 10-15 cm a year.
Fruits
Even young specimens have numerous, violet cones, up to 7 cm long, often with drops of resin.
Leaves
Short, wide, upward-curved needles, shiny dark green, conspicuously white underneath, very visible; very densely packed, arranged around the twig like bristles of a brush; attractive needles.
Demands
Sunny to slightly shady, cool and humid, frost hardy; needs wind protection.
Soil
Fresh to moist, acidic to slightly alkaline; nutritious, sandy-loamy or loamy substrates.
