Small, before leaves shoot, crimson-red, April.
Leaves
Ornamental, fern-like leaves, seven or nine-lobed, fresh green, conspicuous autumn colours orange-red to bright red, October.
Roots
Shallow roots, sensitive.
Demands
Sun to light shade; prefers mild winter climates, needs winter protection when young as it is only moderately winter hardy, large specimens are usually frost hardy; likes humid air and soil, avoids sunny, hot, dry areas, needs wind protection.
Soil
Slightly acidic, humic, well drained, not on alkaline and heavy soil.
