Habit

Pinnate, three to five, occasionally seven leaves, light green, yellow-green in autumn, October.

Green; glaucous blue.
Roots
Shallow roots, slow-growing, not very sensitive.
Demands
Sun to light shade, growing crooked in deep shade; tolerates warmth, frost hardy; tolerates urban climates; break when old, thus protect from wind.
Soil
Moderately dry to damp, tolerates floods; acidic to slightly alkaline; not demanding, adaptable; on all somewhat nutritious substrates.
