Habit
Exquisite large shrub or small tree, 4-6 m tall, 2-5 m wide, often with several stems; broader than wide when old; loose crown, slow-growing, 15-20 cm a year.
Flowers
After leaves shoot, reddish racemes; June.
Fruits
Initially reddish, very attractive.
Leaves
Five to eleven-lobed, deeply cut, changing, fresh green, glowing orange to red in autumn, October.
Roots
Flat, somewhat sensitive.
Demands
Prefers light shade, cool, humid areas protected from winter and wind, sensitive to late frost, heat and drought.
Soil
Likes slightly acidic, sandy-humic-loamy, well drained substrates, not heavy or compacted soil on which it hardly grows and is sensitive to frost when young.
Note
Do not cut Acer palmatum.
