Habit
Normal shrub, 1.5-2 (3) m tall, up to 1.5 m wide; initially upright, later loosely arching and overhanging, shoots very thorny, slow-growing.
Flowers
Yellow in small panicles, May to June.
Fruits
Blue-black, elongated, 1 cm long.
Leaves
Evergreen, large, lanceolate and wavy, dull dark green, greenish underneath.
Demands
Sun to semi-shade; usually frost hardy, sensitive to frost in extreme areas, even more so on heavy soil.
Soil
Fresh, tolerates moderate droughts, in any well drained garden soil, sensitive to soil compaction; tolerates urban and industrial pollution.
Note
Takes well to cutting.
