Habit
Many shoots, domed shrubs, 1-1.5 m tall and wide; twigs arching to extended, with many thorns, covered with small corky warts; slow-growing.
Flowers
Golden yellow, in May; somewhat covered by foliage.
Fruits
Bluish black.
Leaves
Evergreen, small, ovoid, somewhat thorny, shiny dark green, bluish white underneath; often bronze to black-green in winter facing the sun.
Demands
Sun to semi-shade; usually frost hardy, tolerant of urban and industrial pollution; needs wind protection.
Soil
Well drained, fresh to moderately dry substrates, soil that is too dry or heavy increases frost damage; sensitive to soil compaction.
Note
Takes well to cutting.
