Stiffly upright clumps, compact, does not need staking; does not produce runners or seedlings, not rampant.

120-170 cm tall; 70-100 cm wide.

Elongated, upright panicles (sterile), initially pinnate, brownish green, gradually becoming dense, light brown, fruit spikes July to August, long into autumn.

Already green in early spring, stiffly upright tuft of leaves, nodding leaf tips, fresh green, staying yellow to light brown long into autumn.

Sun to light shade, needs staking in very shady areas, likes warmth, frost hardy.

Fresh to moist, nutritious, humic, acidic but tolerant of chalk, well-drained, sandy-rocky loam, also pure loam.
