Habit
Normal shrub, 2-(3) m tall, 2 m wide; twigs somewhat upright; medium to fast-growing.
Flowers
Inconspicuous, small purple clusters, July to August.
Fruits
Numerous, shiny purple to violet berries, September to October, one of the most beautiful shrubs for decorative fruit.
Leaves
Dull green, elongated to elliptical; yellowish to orange autumn colours from end of September.
Roots
Shallow, sensitive, cover with mulch in winter.
Demands
Sunny to shady, for warm, mild areas; somewhat sensitive to frost, regenerating after damage.
Soil
Well drained, sandy-humic or loamy, best on acidic to neutral soil, not growing well on heavy soil where it suffers more from frost.
Note
Plant several specimens together to increase fruit production.
