Habit
Initially strictly conical large tree with layers of extended branches, growing asymmetrically broad with a flattened crown, branches horizontal, lower ones reaching the ground; 15-20 (35) m tall and 6-10 (15-20) m wide.
Fruits
Ovoid, resinous cones, up to 10 cm long, aromatic fragrance.
Leaves
Dark green, coarse leaves, in clusters.
Roots
Deep roots with few laterals.
Demands
Full sun, takes well to heat, likes warmth, mostly frost hardy, does not need wind protection, good for urban environments.
Soil
Moderately dry to moist, slightly acidic to alkaline; all well-drained substrates with normal nutritional value.
Native habitat
In the high altitudes of the mountains of Lebanon, cedars grow next to varieties of Juniperus, Pinus and low Quercus.
