Habit

Small shrub up to 1.2 m tall, 1 m wide, stiffly upright, short twigs, very slow-growing.

Flowers

Plentiful along twig tips, bright white, before leaves shoot; March to April, very fragrant.

Fruits

Round, pea-size, yellow from June on, very poisonous.

Leaves

Lanceolate, dark green, green underneath, pale yellow in autumn.

Roots

Deep roots.

Demands

Shady, likes cool areas, avoids warmth, frost hardy, high humidity.

Soil

Dry to fresh; moderately acidic to alkaline, prefers humic loam.
