Habit
Broad, bushy, upright small shrub, 1-1.5 m tall and wide; medium to fast-growing; more shoots than the normal variety.
Flowers
A select flowering shrub with far more and larger flowers than the type, intense dark carmine (February) March to April; fragrant from afar (more than 25m away!).
Fruits
Round, pea-size, red from June on, very poisonous.
Leaves
Lanceolate, pale green, in clusters at the end of shoots, no autumn colours.
Roots
Deep roots, sensitive; once established, do not transplant.
Demands
Light shade to semi-shade; grows in sunny areas, but has extremely short-lived flowers with pale colours, frost hardy; suffers from heat, wind and extreme frost.
Soil
Fresh or moist, cool and humid; neutral to alkaline; for strong, nutritious, loamy substrates.
