Habit

Domed clumps with towering stalks.

Size

Tuft of leaves 30-50cm high, 40-60 cm wide, peduncles up to 60-100 cm high.

Flowers

Wiry, thin peduncles with feathery panicles, greenish violet; July to August, bright whitish yellow in autumn.

Leaves

Semi-evergreen, slenderly linear, very lilting, dark green.

Demands

Partially sunny to semi-shady, shade possible but stalks need support; cool-humid, frost hardy.

Soil

Fresh to damp, short droughts are no problem, humic, loam to clay.

Our tip

Cut the stalks after they wither and the tuft of leaves down to the ground early in spring.
