Habit
Asymmetrical large shrub or small tree, 6-8 m tall, 4-6 m wide; crooked stem; branches steeply or vertically upright; the thorny twigs are more spread out, some arching; medium to fast-growing.
Flowers
Numerous, small, tube shaped, silvery outside, yellow inside, May (June), pleasant fragrance.
Fruits
Like olives, yellowish, edible from August on, sweetish to tasteless.
Leaves
Flour-white shoots, then silvery or grey-green, lanceolate, persistent, falling in November without autumn colours.
Roots
Little branching, spread out; collect nitrogen, no runners.
Demands
Only in full sun, even the slightest shade causes habit to become crooked; likes heat and drought; basically frost hardy, good for urban and industrial areas, very wind resistant.
Soil
On all well drained, alkaline soil; dry to fresh, tolerates salt.
