Mat-like, creeping dwarf shrub, 01.-0.2 m tall, 0.3 m wide; medium to fast-growing, spreading with runners.

Whitish pink bells between the leaves, from June on.

Pea-size, lively red berries; aromatic scent (of chewing gum); many fruits from August on, persistent into spring.

Evergreen, leathery and thick, ovoid, shiny dark green, also aromatic.

Light shade to semi-shade, usually frost hardy.

Best on cool, moist or fresh, acidic-humic soil; sensitive to drought.
