Genista lydia

An attractive, prostrate and broad dwarf shrub, 0.3-0.5 m tall, 1 m wide, thorns tipped, arching twigs, conspicuous grey-green; overall domed habit, slow-growing.

Yellow butterfly flowers on prickly lateral shoots, May or June, luxurious flowers.

Inconspicuous husks.

Lanceolate and small, grey.

Deep, collect nitrogen.

Only in full sun; tolerates heat and drought, plant in protected areas due to sensitivity to frost, needs wind protection.

On poor, mineral soil; always well drained and not too moist; slightly acidic to slightly alkaline.
