Geranium sanguineum

Initially domed cushions growing into large, dense mats with its many seedlings, layers, and far-creeping runners.

20-40 cm tall; layers up to 70 cm long.

Bowl shaped, carmine, May to June, second blossoms into August; many flowers.

Deeply cut, palmate, small and filigree; pale, shiny dark green; conspicuous orange to blood red in autumn.

Sun to semi-shade, tolerates heat, likes warmth, frost hardy, not demanding and very robust.

Dry to fresh, well-drained, poor soil, likes chalk, sandy or rocky loam.
