Habit
Large mats producing dense carpets of leaves with its meter-long layers, hanging down from wall tops; extremely fast-growing and invasive.
Size
20-30 cm, inflorescences 30-40 cm high, single plant 100-120 cm wide.
Flowers
Bilabial in whorled levels on upright, panicle-like shoots, light to golden yellow; May to June.
Leaves
Semi-evergreen, cordate or broadly oval, pale green, intense silver spots during shooting, later pale white, gapless carpets of leaves.
Demands
No direct sunlight to shade, likes warmth, frost hardy, very robust.
Soil
Moderately dry to moist, quickly wilting in great droughts around root systems of large trees; nutritious, humic, loam.
Our tip
Should the Lamiastrum carpets become too large or lose their nice habit, they can be easily mowed with a raised lawn mower in June after flowering.
