Habit
Flat cushions or mats, creeping with subterranean runners, shoots and root where they contact the ground; not rampant.
Size
15-20 cm tall, mats up to 60 cm wide, flower shoots up to 30 cm tall.
Flowers
Pink or white, bilabial in whorled levels, April to May (June).
Leaves
Often semi-evergreen, cordate, pale green with variously large, silvery mottling in the centre; early shoots end of March/beginning of April, foliage stays on long.
Demands
Semi-shade to shade, likes cool, humid areas, frost hardy.
Soil
Fresh to moist, sensitive to summer drought; very nutritious, humic, loam or clay.
