Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote Blue'

Lamiaceae (Umbelliferae)

Habit
Dwarf semi-shrub, 0.3-05 (0.8) m tall and wide, domed and compact, slow-growing, losing its habit when old and becoming leggy, lives for decades when cut regularly.
Flowers
Many flowers in dense, long-stem spikes, blue-violet, beginning of July, very fragrant to aromatic.
Leaves
Evergreen; lanceolate, grey-green; very aromatic.
Demands
Only full sun; takes well to heat, likes warmth, usually frost hardy.
Soil
Dry to fresh; slightly acidic to very alkaline, in all well-drained, mineral substrates; grows old and dies quickly on heavy, moist soil.
Note
Cut immediately after flowering down to the last recognisable green leaves in the centre of the shrub to keep the habit round and closed.
