Macleaya cordata

Powerful clumps, tall shoots turning into thickets quickly with far-reaching rhizomes; very rampant and invasive; does not need staking despite its size.

180-220 (300) cm tall, at least as wide.

Tiny wisps of small flowers, cream white to light brown, on loosely pinnate, 40-60 cm long flower panicles, July to August.

Large leaf laminae like fig-leaves, cordate, roundly lobed, blue-green on top, white below.

Sun to light shade, wandering far and wide in shady areas; likes warmth, usually frost hardy, sensitive to late frost.

Moderately dry to moist; nutritious, sandy-loamy.
