Habit
Conical small tree, 8-10 m tall, 4-6 m wide; often with short stem, branches stiffly upright, twigs horizontal to vertically ascending.
Flowers
Before leaves shoot, plentiful with radiant white, wide-open flower stars, some 10 cm long, April, slightly fragrant, flowers only after the 15th year fully.
Fruits
Cylindrical, red syncarpy.
Leaves
Early shoots at end of April, fresh green, reverse ovoid; pale yellow in September.

Also tolerates alkaline loam.
