Origanum vulgare 'Compactum'

Round cushions, very compact, mounds when old; extremely slow growth, does not cover ground.

15-20 cm tall.

Small, in clusters on panicles, light violet-pink, June to September.

Pointedly ovoid, small, pale green, very aromatic.

Sun, tolerates heat, likes warmth, frost hardy.

Dry to fresh, sensitive to winter dampness, well-drained, not too nutritious; loamy sand or gravel, also sandy loam; thins out from the centre and rots quickly on heavy or nutritious soil.
