Osmunda regalis

Irregular clumps, upright or widely extended fronds.

50-150 (200) cm tall, 80-150 cm wide.

Two types of leaves: normally fresh green, doubly pinnate fronds up to 50 cm wide, pale yellow long into autumn, and the fertile fonds bearing spores, which are normally 2/3 pinnate and green, cinnamon-brown at the top, appearing dried out.

Sun in damp areas, otherwise light shade to semi-shade, cool-humid, usually frost hardy, mild winters.

Fresh to damp, sometimes even in floods; acidic, humic sand, loam or clay.
