Habit
With adhesive pads/self-clinging; 15-18 m tall, dense mats; twigs very clearly horizontal to fanned out; tendrils with many adhesive pads; very fast-growing, 80-200 (250) cm a year.
Flowers
Inconspicuous, yellow green cymes, July to August.
Fruits
Pea-size berries, black, glaucous bluish from September.
Leaves
Quite variable shapes, initially cordate, pointed, then 3-lobed, gradually in threes; shoots reddish, then shiny fresh green, coarse; yellow-orange to glowing scarlet in autumn.
Demands
Sun to semi-shade, tolerates heat, usually frost hardy, tolerates heat and wind.
Soil
Moderately dry to fresh; on all somewhat nutritious substrates.
