Habit
A majestic, medium-size tree, 10-15 (20) m tall, 6-10 m wide; round crown, usually short stem and thick shoots, branches thick, tomentose, arching upright, twigs extended; slow-growing, a year 10-20 cm.
Flowers
Impressive, green-yellow catkins from end of May to June.
Leaves
Large, obovate, leathery, grey-green; late shoots, grey-tomentose; autumn colours golden brown, November; foliage sometimes very persistent; attractive foliage.
Demands
Sun; resistant to heat; sensitive to late frost, moderately frost hardy;
Soil
Only likes alkaline soil, otherwise like Q. robur.
