Habit
Broadly round, large shrub or small tree with several stems and thick shoots, 4-6 m tall, 4 m wide; slightly umbrella-shaped when old; branches stiffly upright, twigs diagonal; light structure; very slow-growing.
Flowers
Long, green-yellow catkins, end of May.
Leaves
Obovate, 10-25 cm long, like chestnut-leaves, not lobed, medium green; impressive golden yellow autumn colours, end of October.
Demands
Sun; resistant to heat, moderately frost hardy; resistant to urban pollution, wind resistant.
Soil
Dry to fresh; sensitive to dampness, only on well drained soil, likes alkaline, nutritious loam; avoid heavy soil due to increased frost damage.
