Crataegus prunifolia

Large shrub or small tree, 6-7 m tall and wide, stiffly upright, densely branches, moderate growth, 20-25 cm a year.

Plentiful, white umbels, May to June.

Round, attractive, scarlet, many fruits every year from September.

Broadly elliptical, shiny dark green; yellow-red to red from September, brilliant autumn colours.

Few fine roots, deep roots, not sensitive.

Adaptable and not demanding, sun to light shade, tolerant of heat, frost hardy; resistant to industrial and urban pollution, tolerates wind.

Moderately dry to fresh, neutral to very alkaline, on all well drained substrates.
